The Hop Thief

The other night Adri and I went to the launch of the latest seasonal release from James Squire - The Hop Thief.

What a tops night out it was too! Free beer and food as well as a chance to meet the man behind the Malt Shovel Brewery - Mr Chuck Hahn.

He even hinted at a new special release beer to be brewed next summer. He couldn't give too much away, but I managed to coax him into saying it was especially designed for summer drinking. My tip is a blond.

A free Hop Thief to the first person that can tell me why the beer is called "The Hop Thief".

Wasn't it because Mr Squire himself stole a hop (maybe even a hop substitute?) while he was still a convict in order to brew beer?

no it's because he only had one leg and so when he stole things his mode of getaway was to 'hop'... hence - "the hop thief"
